For just the second time since his rookie season, Green Bay Packers linebacker De’Vondre Campbell will miss a game due to an injury.
The Packers ruled out Campbell for Sunday’s showdown with the Detroit Lions because of a knee injury.
Campbell, now in his seventh season, has played in 99 of 105 possible games since entering the league as a fourth-round pick in 2016. He missed four games with an ankle injury and a fifth due to a concussion as a rookie and then missed the season finale in 2021 out of an abundance of caution in a meaningless game after suffering a minor elbow injury the week before. Had the game meant anything in Detroit to end the regular season last year, Campbell likely would have played.
The game Campbell missed last season snapped a streak of 81 straight regular-season games played.
His return trip to Detroit in 2022 will also keep him on the sidelines. Expect second-year linebacker Isaiah McDuffie to make his first NFL start in place of Campbell on Sunday.
Through eight games this season, Campbell has 64 tackles, six tackles for loss, one interception (returned for TD) and two pass breakups.
With Campbell out, rookie Quay Walker will wear the communication helmet (green dot) and relay plays to the huddle on Sunday against the Lions.
