Packers keep OLB Reggie Gilbert with exclusive rights tender

The Green Bay Packers are bringing back outside linebacker Reggie Gilbert with a one-year exclusive rights tender, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

The tender is worth $570,000.

Gilbert, 25, produced 38 tackles, 2.5 sacks, four tackles for losses, eight quarterback hits, two pass breakups and one fumble recovery over 16 games with the Packers last season. He played 486 snaps on defense and 226 on special teams.

Much of his production came early in the year. Gilbert tallied three quarterback hits and a half sack in the Packers’ tie with the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2, a sack of Josh Allen in the Packers’ win over the Buffalo Bills and a sack of Brock Osweiler in the Packers’ win over the Miami Dolphins. He also created two tackles for losses and a quarterback hit during the Packers’ loss in Los Angeles.

The Packers need depth at edge rusher going into 2019, and Gilbert is a capable backup.

The Packers have already tendered offensive lineman Justin McCray and tight end Robert Tonyan. Demovsky expects the Packers to also tender receiver Jake Kumerow, offensive lineman Lucas Patrick, running back Lavon Coleman and offensive lineman Adam Pankey.
