Packers interested in Wisconsin-Whitewater C Nate Trewyn

The Green Bay Packers have their eyes on an intriguing in-state draft prospect.

According to Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst, the Packers are among the teams most interested in Wisconsin-Whitewater center Nate Trewyn, one of his five best “under-the-radar small-school prospects.”

A Janesville, Wisc. native, Trewyn (6-3, 313) started at center for three seasons for the Warhawks and was the top offensive lineman in the WIAC, winning the Rimington Award as the best center in NCAA Division III in 2018. He was the only DIII player to participate NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, and he was the only WIAC player to work out at the Wisconsin pro day in March.

Pauline believes Trewyn could be a late-round pick in the 2019 draft.

“He’s a tough, wide-bodied blocker at the pivot who plays with terrific fundamentals,” Pauline wrote. “Depending on who you speak with, there are as few as seven draftable centers available this year, and a few of them are guards who project to center.”

At Wisconsin’s pro day, Trewyn ran the 40-yard dash in 5.38 seconds, did 26 reps on the bench press, hit 28.5″ in the vertical and 101″ in the broad jump and finished the three-cone drill in 7.69 seconds and the short shuttle in 4.69 seconds.

An offensive lineman from the WIAC hasn’t been drafted since 1991.

The Packers currently have six picks on the final day of the draft. They could use one on Trewyn if they believe he’s good enough to be a developmental interior offensive line prospect.

The Packers already have a standout from Wisconsin-Whitewater on the roster in receiver Jake Kumerow.
