Packers GM: ‘No truth’ to report that Rams tried to trade for Aaron Rodgers

After the Rams agreed to a trade for Matthew Stafford, many wondered if he was the only quarterback Los Angeles pursued. Deshaun Watson was a desired target for some fans, while Aaron Rodgers seemed like a pipe dream after his cryptic comments about his future in Green Bay.

According to Sam Farmer of the L.A. Times, the Rams “made a run” at Rodgers and Watson was “out of their price range.” But Packers GM Brian Gutekunst denied the report that the Rams called about Rodgers.

He told media members that there’s “no truth” to that rumor.

So there’s that. Gutekunst very easily could’ve said the Rams called but the Packers quickly shut them down, but the fact that he denied the report outright suggests the Rams truly didn’t inquire.

Les Snead and Sean McVay will eventually address the media about the Stafford trade, and we could get some clarity on whether there were other targets. But for now, it seems Rodgers wasn’t a legitimate option.
