Packers GM indicates TE Jimmy Graham will return in 2019

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst indicated Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine that tight end Jimmy Graham will return for a second season in Green Bay in 2019.

“Jimmy had a productive year for us last year. I was really really proud of him, he fought through a lot of things just to be out there,” Gutekunst said. “His professionalism was on display each and every day. Looking forward to seeing what he can do for us this year.”

The Packers signed Graham to a three-year, $30 million deal last March, making him the league’s highest-paid tight end. He caught 55 passes for 636 yards and two touchdowns over 16 games, but he dealt with a lingering knee issue the held him out of practices all year and later broke his thumb, which greatly affected the final two months of his season.

Graham, 32, is due a roster bonus of $5 million on March 15. His cap hit will be $12,666,666 in 2019.

In December, Graham voiced his desire to return to Green Bay for a second season.

“I’ve always dominated everywhere I went. Obviously, I haven’t done that yet here, so it would be nice to get an opportunity to do it,” Graham said. “Come back, and kind of be more comfortable here.”
