Packers give $7K signing bonuses to 7 undrafted free agents

Seven of the Green Bay Packers’ 11 undrafted free agent signings received signing bonuses of $7,000, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

Leading the way was Baylor edge rusher Greg Roberts, who not only signed for $7,000 upfront but also received $65,000 of his base salary guaranteed.

Other receiving $7,000 signing bonuses: Oklahoma linebacker Curtis Bolton, Iowa State receiver Matthew Eaton, Duke tight end Davis Koppenhaver, Virginia Tech offensive tackle Yosh Nijam, Arkansas edge rusher Randy Ramsey and Arizona State quarterback Manny Wilkins.

Signing bonuses are used to lure undrafted free agents in college free agency and generally reflect a team’s interest in an individual player. It can be safely assumed the Packers believe Roberts has the best chance of the undrafted class to make the 53-man roster. The Packers almost never guarantee portions of the base salary, so they must really think they have a hidden gem in the long, athletic edge rusher from Baylor.

Others receiving smaller signing bonuses were cornerback Javien Hamilton ($4,000), cornerback Kabion Ento ($2,500), cornerback Nydair Rouse ($2,500) and guard Larry Williams ($2,000).
