Packers’ first-round pick Jordan Love inactive for Week 1 vs. Vikings

The Green Bay Packers won’t have their first-round pick on the active gameday roster for Week 1 of the 2020 season.

Quarterback Jordan Love, the 26th overall pick in the 2020 draft, is inactive for the Packers on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

Love is officially the No. 3 quarterback on the roster, behind starter Aaron Rodgers and backup Tim Boyle.

While the Packers love his talent and upside, Love didn’t get an in-person offseason workout program and was well behind Boyle, last year’s backup, entering training camp. An up-and-down summer from Love ensured Boyle would remain the backup quarterback entering 2020.

Boyle beat out DeShone Kizer, a former-second round pick, and was the backup behind Rodgers for all 16 games last season. This year, he beat out Love, a first-round pick, to retain his job as the No. 2 quarterback.

With Rodgers and Boyle active and Love inactive, the rookie will be designated as the team’s third quarterback. He is eligible to dress and play in the game if necessary. More on the third quarterback rules can be found here.
