Packers elevate veteran DL, help at RB from practice squad for Week 16

The Green Bay Packers reinforced the roster with help along the defensive line and at running back for Sunday’s showdown with the Tennessee Titans.

The Packers elevated defensive lineman Brian Price and running back Dexter Williams from the practice squad to the gameday roster for Week 16.

Price, who originally signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2016, returned to Green Bay with a practice squad deal on Dec. 15. He has played in 22 career NFL games but none since 2018. Price will join Anthony Rush as reserve defensive linemen available behind Kenny Clark, Kinsley Keke, Dean Lowry and Tyler Lancaster. The position group has a big task ahead with Derrick Henry and the Titans run game heading to Green Bay on Sunday night.

Williams received his third elevation of the season. Previously, the Packers elevated him from the practice squad for wins over the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers, but he injured his knee in San Francisco on Nov. 5 and landed on injured reserve. The Packers’ sixth-round pick in 2019 carried two times for eight yards against the 49ers and has seven carries for 19 yards in his two-year NFL career. He will provide depth behind Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon with Jamaal Williams (quad) doubtful to play against the Titans.

Teams can elevate as many as two players from the practice squad each week. Players can only be elevated two times per season, not including COVID-19 replacement elevations. They revert back to the practice squad following the game.

Williams was elevated once as a COVID-19 replacement (vs. 49ers). This will be his second elevation from the practice squad, meaning he can’t be elevated again this season.
