The American Alliance of Football might only be two weeks old, but a past draft pick of the Green Bay Packers already produced a record-setting day during the Orlando Apollo’s win over the San Antonio Commanders Sunday.
Receiver Charles Johnson, a seventh-round pick of the Packers in 2013, caught seven passes for 192 yards, the most ever in an AAF game.
Three of his receptions gained 40 or more yards. He also hauled in two touchdown passes from quarterback Garrett Gilbert during the thrilling 37-29 win.

Johnson never played in a regular season game with the Packers. He was signed off Green Bay’s practice squad by the Cleveland Browns in October of 2013 and eventually caught 60 passes over three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, including a touchdown against the Packers in 2014.
Johnson now has 252 receiving yards during the first two games of the AAF’s debut season.
Still only 29, Johnson could get another NFL shot this summer if he continues producing big numbers for the Apollos. He was with the New York Jets last summer but failed to make the final roster.
The matchup Sunday in San Antonio also featured a big play from two former Packers now playing for the Commanders. Jayrone Elliott’s strip-sack created Joey Mbu’s fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter.
