Packers decline offering tender, will move on from S Kentrell Brice

The Green Bay Packers are bidding farewell to safety Kentrell Brice.

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, the Packers declined to offer a tender to Brice, a restricted free agent, and he is now expected to leave Green Bay to sign elsewhere.

Brice, an undrafted free agent from Louisiana Tech, played 36 games and made 14 starts for the Packers over the last three seasons, tallying 99 tackles, six pass breakups and one interception. He began last season as one of the Packers starting safeties but battled injuries and inconsistency throughout the year.

Although athletic and capable of delivering a big hit, Brice struggled in coverage as a deep safety and was far too unreliable as a tackler in the open field.

Without a tender, Brice will become an unrestricted free agent.

Brice was reportedly interested in returning to Green Bay, but the feeling wasn’t mutual. The Packers signed safety Adrian Amos to begin free agency and are likely looking to rebuild the position from the ground up this offseason.

Going from Brice to Amos will represent one of the most significant single-position improvements in the NFL this offseason.
