Packers claiming former Ravens OLB Tim Williams off waivers

The Green Bay Packers are claiming former Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker Tim Williams off of waivers, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Williams, a third-round pick of the Ravens in 2017, was released on Monday. He’ll have to pass a physical before officially joining the Packers’ 53-man roster.

A standout at Alabama but a disappointment in Baltimore, Williams (6-3, 252) produced 18 tackles and two sacks over 19 games in three seasons with the Ravens, who made him the 78th overall pick in the 2017 draft.

Williams is a former teammate of Packers outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith and has a connection with Packers personnel executive Milt Hendrickson, who worked in the Ravens front office before joining GM Brian Gutekunst in Green Bay this year.

It’s possible Hendrickson and defensive coordinator Mike Pettine see potential for Williams to revive his NFL career in Green Bay.

Williams, who turns 26 in November, will join an outside linebacker group that includes Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith, first-round pick Rashan Gary and Kyler Fackrell.

The Packers will need to create a roster spot for Williams.
