Maybe it was rivalry bluster, or the afterglow of a victory.
But Packers cornerback Tramon Williams called out Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky after Thursday night’s 10-3 win at Soldier Field.
”We wanted to make [Trubisky] play quarterback,” he said. “We knew they had a lot of weapons. We knew they were dangerous. We knew all of those things. We knew if we could make [Trubisky] play quarterback, we would have a chance.”
They were right. Trubisky went 26-for-45 for 228 yards. He was sacked twice, picked off once — by former Bears safety Adrian Amos — and finished with a 62.1 passer rating.
“Way to start the season off,” he said. “Green Bay and Chicago. Hundredth year. Who would’ve knew, 10-3? We played well as a defense. We knew we had to outplay their defense.”
Trubisky credited the Packers’ defensive approach.
“They do a great job of mixing it up, and I think they did really well on first and second down to keep us in third-down situations,” he said. “And obviously [defensive coordinator Mike] Pettine, he’s really good on 3rd down. He ‘gurus it up’ and has a bunch of different coverages, overload pressures and stuff that gave us trouble up front and in the back end tonight.”
