Packers CB Kevin King misses practice for second consecutive day

Playing Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is looking less and less likely for Green Bay Packers cornerback Kevin King.

For the second consecutive day, King – who is battling a quad injury – missed practice, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The absences suggest the Packers’ starting corner in serious danger of missing Sunday’s trip to Tampa Bay.

King originally suffered the injury in the second half of the Packers’ win over the Atlanta Falcons. Despite having a week off with the bye, King still hasn’t practiced this week.

If King can’t go, the Packers would be a little shorthanded at cornerback against the Buccaneers – a potentially important factor considering the talent at receiver in Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers could get back Chris Godwin from a hamstring injury, and both Mike Evans and Scott Miller have been productive to start 2020.

King started all four games for the Packers at cornerback this season. He allowed eight catches and a touchdown on 13 targets, per Pro Football Focus.

So, how would the Packers organize the secondary if King is unavailable?

Both Josh Jackson and Ka’dar Hollman played snaps in the second half against the Falcons. Jackson missed three tackles and had a penalty, while Hollman broke up a pass and didn’t allow a catch on three targets.

Ideally, the Packers would keep nickel corner Chandon Sullivan inside to cover the slot, but he’s an option to play on the perimeter if the Packers think he’s their best player opposite Jaire Alexander.

It’s still possible King could practice on Friday and be ready to go Sunday. The Packers will release official injury designations – out, doubtful or questionable – following Friday’s practice.

King, who missed 17 games to injury during his first two seasons, has played in 21 of the Packers’ last 22 games, including the playoffs.
