Packers CB Kevin King ‘healthy’ to start training camp

There will be no health concerns for Green Bay Packers cornerback Kevin King to start training camp.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, King is expected to be “active and healthy” to begin camp, which officially kicks off for the Packers on Thursday morning.

The report implies King will avoid the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to start camp.

King was a limited participant during the Packers offseason workout program after finishing his second straight season on injured reserve. He’s missed 17 of a possible 32 games since the Packers made him a second-round pick in 2017.

Shoulder injuries have plagued King throughout his recent football career, and he landed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury after only six games last season, but it appears he’ll enter the 2019 season with a clean bill of health.

If King can avoid injury during camp, he’ll have a strong opportunity to earn a starting role at cornerback opposite standout sophomore Jaire Alexander.

The Packers are counting on King to become a core player in 2019.

“He’s a long, fast cornerback who can make plays on the football,” coach Matt LaFleur said during OTAs. “He’s definitely an important piece for us moving forward.”
