Packers believe CB Kevin King avoided major hamstring injury

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst isn’t highly concerned about the hamstring injury suffered by cornerback Kevin King during the team’s Family Night Scrimmage last Friday.

Gutekunst believes King, who has missed the last two days of practice, avoided a major injury.

“It sounds like he’s going to be OK and it shouldn’t be a long-term thing,” Gutekunst said before Monday’s joint practice with the Houston Texans. “We’ll kind of wait and see. Those things you usually know a little bit more in a few days here. When guys have continuous things it’s always bothersome. He was having a great camp, so far, but hopefully he’ll be back pretty quickly.”

King finished the last two seasons on injured reserve and has played in only 15 of 32 total games since joining the Packers as a second-round pick in 2017. Last season, a hamstring injury ended his year after only six games.

The Packers don’t think King’s current injury is related to last year’s issue.

The third-year cornerback wasn’t available to practice with the Texans Monday but spent much of the practice on the sideline playing catch with Josh Jackson, who is still out with a foot injury.

The Packers should get more clarity of King’s injury soon.

“We should know something more in the next day,” coach Matt LaFleur said after Monday’s practice.

The Packers practice with the Texans again Tuesday morning at Ray Nitschke Field.
