Packers anticipating Darnell Savage to be ready for start of camp

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur left the door open for rookie safety Darnell Savage to be on the field and participating to start training camp Thursday.

Savage reportedly had a dental procedure completed and was placed on the non-football illness list Monday.

“We’re anticipating him to be going tomorrow,” LaFleur said Wednesday. “That’s kind of day by day thing to see how he feels.”

Savage, the 21st overall pick and the first defensive back selected in the 2019 draft, earned a starting job next to Adrian Amos during the Packers’ offseason workout program. He is expected to retain that spot when the Packers open camp Thursday.

LaFleur said the Packers were still going through the process of determining who would be able to participate during the start of camp. The first practice begins Thursday morning at 10:15 a.m. at Ray Nitschke Field across from Lambeau Field in Green Bay.
