Packers announce schedule for offseason workout program

The Green Bay Packers’ nine-week offseason program will start April 8 and run through June 13, the NFL announced Monday.

New coach Matt LaFleur will begin the four-phase program next Monday, marking the official start to the 2019 season.

First day: April 8
Voluntary minicamp: April 23-25
OTAs: May 20-21, May 23, May 28-29, May 31, June 3-6
Mandatory minicamp: June 11-13

The first phase is limited to strength training and conditioning work, with limits of four hours per day and 90 minutes of work on the field. It starts April 8 and lasts two weeks.

Teams with new head coaches, such as the Packers, get the chance to hold a voluntary minicamp, which is scheduled for April 23-25.

The second phase is also limited to four hours per day, but all coaches are allowed on the field. The workouts can’t include offense vs. defense situations or one-on-one drills, and no helmets are allowed. This period lasts three weeks.

Organized team activities (OTAs) start in May. The Packers are scheduled for five separate sessions: May 20-21, May 23, May 28-29, May 31 and June 3-6.

This is when the offseason program ramps up. Helmets are permitted and teams can do team drills and situations, including 11-on-11, but live contact is still prohibited. Teams get 10 OTAs sessions over a four-week period.

The final phase is a mandatory minicamp, which involves player physicals, three days of practice and up to 3.5 hours per day on the field. The minicamp starts on June 11 and runs through June 13.

The Packers often include workout bonuses in the contracts of veteran players as an incentive to participate in the voluntary workouts. A full list of offseason workout bonuses can be found here.

The team will make several of the later workouts available to the public. Dates are subject to change.
