Packers announce contract extension for DL Dean Lowry

The Green Bay Packers have signed defensive lineman Dean Lowry to a contract extension, the team announced Tuesday.

Lowry, a fourth-round pick of the Packers in 2016, was scheduled to enter the final year of his rookie contract in 2019. Instead, he’ll have a new deal keeping him in Green Bay long term.

Lowry played in 47 of a possible 48 games and made 19 starts during his first three NFL seasons. He tallied 84 tackles, seven sacks, six batted passes, 14 quarterback hits, 13 tackles for losses and one defensive touchdown.

Last season, Lowry played 697 defensive snaps, or roughly 65 percent of the Packers’ total defensive snaps. He’ll go into the 2019 season as a solid, consistent part of the Packers deep and talented defensive line.

GM Brian Gutekunst can now cross one important free agent off the list for next offseason. Others with expiring contracts after the 2019 season include Mike Daniels, Bryan Bulaga, Tramon Williams, Mason Crosby, Blake Martinez, Kyler Fackrell and Geronimo Allison.
