Packers among teams to meet with Central Michigan CB Sean Bunting

The Green Bay Packers are one of several teams that have either hosted a pre-draft visit or a workout for Central Michigan cornerback Sean Bunting, according to Matt Miller of Bleacher Report.

Bunting (6-0, 195) intercepted nine passes over three seasons with the Chippewas.

Teams like the Packers could target his combination of press coverage ability and athleticism on the second day of the draft.

Bunting gave up a completion rate of only 39.8 percent in 2018, according to Lance Zierlein of NFL.com. Pro Football Focus had him down for a passer rating against his coverage of only 41.5, one of the best marks among college cornerbacks, and he didn’t allow a single receiving touchdown.

Bunting really solidified his draft stock with an impressive showing at the NFL Scouting Combine, where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds and hit 41.5″ on the vertical leap. He finished the three-cone drill in 6.89 seconds at Central Michigan’s pro day, putting him well in the range of the Packers’ size and athleticism thresholds at cornerback.

Although the Packers have used first- or second-round picks at the cornerback positions three times in the last two drafts (Kevin King, Jaire Alexander, Josh Jackson), the position can never have enough young, athletic talent, and Bunting’s ability to play press man on an island would be especially appealing to Packers defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.
