The Green Bay Packers are interested in a veteran tight end that has played for coach Matt LaFleur.
According to John Keim of ESPN, the Packers are among three teams interested in 35-year-old tight end Delanie Walker, who was released by the Tennessee Titans this week.
The Washington Redskins and Indianapolis Colts are also interested, per Keim.
Walker, who turns 36 in August, played in only one game under LaFleur, then the Titans offensive coordinator, in 2018. He returned from the season-ending ankle injury in 2019 but played in just seven games before landing back on injured reserve.
At the height of his powers, Walker was a versatile, dual-threat tight end capable of blocking in the run game and creating big plays in the passing game from a variety of spots on the field. In 2015, he set career highs with 94 catches and 1,088 receiving yards. The next year, he set a career high for touchdown catches with seven.
Walker was named to the Pro Bowl each year between 2015-17.
LaFleur was expecting to make Walker one of the focal points of his offense in 2018 but had to shift gears when he suffered the season-ending injury in Week 1. Over the last two seasons, Walker has played in just eight games, catching 25 passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns.
The Packers have dabbled in the veteran tight end market for several years, signing Jared Cook, Martellus Bennett, Lance Kendricks, Jimmy Graham and Marcedes Lewis in the last five years.
Walker could give the Packers a veteran complement to Jace Sternberger, last year’s third-round pick.
