Packers agree to sign OL Billy Turner to 4-year, $28 million deal

The Green Bay Packers aren’t done in free agency yet. After an already busy morning, the Packers have signed former Broncos offensive lineman Billy Turner, according to Tom Silverstein of PackersNews.com.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Turner was signed to a four-year, $28 million deal, worth up to $29.5 million with incentives. Turner is set to earn $11 million in 2019.

Turner, 27, was drafted in the third round in 2014 by the Dolphins. He was released by Miami mid-season in 2016 and claimed off waivers by the Ravens. Shortly thereafter, Turner was released by Baltimore and claimed off waivers by the Broncos, where he’s spent the last two seasons.

A versatile lineman, Turner started 11 games last season for Denver with four starts at right tackle and seven starts at left guard. He has 25 career starts in 40 games played.

The Packers have an obvious need at right guard, and Turner appears to have been a coveted chess piece along the offensive line for GM Brian Gutekunst. He ranked as PFF’s No. 33 guard in 2018.

Silverstein stated that Turner is a versatile “swing player” along the O-line and “could easily” fill in at right guard for the Packers. He figures to fill in nicely in new head coach Matt LaFleur’s zone blocking running scheme.

Denver showed interest in re-signing Turner but were ultimately outbid by Green Bay.
