Packers add Chiefs’ 2016 third-round pick to practice squad

The Green Bay Packers made two additions to the team’s practice squad on Wednesday, including the signing of a third-round draft pick in 2016.

The Packers brought back offensive lineman Ben Braden, who was promoted to the active roster for Sunday’s win over the Houston Texans. He was released on Monday to make room for linebacker James Burgess. The team also signed cornerback KeiVarae Russell, the 74th overall pick in the 2016 draft.

Russell has played on four other teams over his five seasons in the NFL. He was released by the Chiefs in September of his rookie year but spent three years in Cincinnati with the Bengals. He was with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2019 and the New York Giants during training camp this year.

Over 20 regular-season games, Russell has 22 tackles, two pass breakups and an interception. He hasn’t played in a regular-season game since 2018.

The Packers reported a workout for Russell, who will wear No. 34, last week.

The Packers had room for Russell after signing defensive lineman Billy Winn from the practice squad last Saturday.
