Packers add 2 new assistant coaches to Matt LaFleur’s staff

The Green Bay Packers have hired two new assistant coaches to Matt LaFleur’s staff.

The team announced Thursday the additions of new assistant offensive line coach Luke Butkus and special teams quality control coach Rayna Stewart.

Butkus, the nephew of former Chicago Bears linebacker Dick Butkus, arrives in Green Bay to assist offensive line coach Ryan Stenavich after spending the last three seasons coaching the offensive line at the University of Illinois. He was previously the assistant offensive line coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars (2013-15), a quality control assistant for the Seattle Seahawks (2010-11) and an assistant offensive line coach for the Bears (2007-09). He was a two-time All-Big Ten center for Illinois and played briefly in the NFL.

Stenavich and Butkus will replace James Campen and Jeff Blasko, who both departed for Cleveland.

Stewart, a former NFL defensive back and assistant coach with the Tennessee Titans, will assist special teams coordinator Shawn Mennenga, who is bringing Stewart to Green Bay from Vanderbilt. He spent the last four seasons at the school, including last season as Mennenga’s quality control assistant.

The Packers now have three coaches for special teams: Mennenga, Stewart and assistant Maurice Drayton, who worked under Ron Zook last season.

LaFleur’s staff is nearly complete. He is likely to add a quality control assistant or two on the offensive side, but the main positions have been filled.
