Packers activate S Ibraheim Campbell, release OLB Tim Williams

The Green Bay Packers are adding some veteran help to a struggling defense.

The team activated safety Ibraheim Campbell from the PUP list and released outside linebacker Tim Williams on Tuesday.

The deadline for activating Campbell was Tuesday. He began the year on the PUP list after suffering a torn ACL in early December of last season.

In Campbell, the Packers are getting a versatile defensive back who knows Mike Pettine’s defense and can contribute in coverage and down in the box against the run.

In three games with the Packers last season, Campbell delivered 20 tackles and a forced fumble, including back-to-back games with eight tackles. He could help the Packers against the run as Pettine’s preferred third safety, a role that has been played by Will Redmond and Chandon Sullivan at times recently.

The Packers face Christian McCaffrey and the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Williams, who was claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens on Oct. 3, played in just one game with the Packers. He saw action for two snaps on special teams against the Detroit Lions.
