Even if fans are allowed at games during the 2020 season, the Green Bay Packers are acknowledging that seating capacity at Lambeau Field will be “significantly reduced” due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic.
In an update provided to season ticket holders on Friday, Packers team president and CEO Mark Murphy said there is a “possibility” fans won’t be allowed at games in 2020 and the team is preparing for “appropriate social distancing” that will require a “significantly reduced” seating capacity at Lambeau Field, which typically holds 81,414 fans.
From the press release: “As a result, the special experience to which fans are accustomed at Lambeau Field will look and feel very different.”
The Packers have also eliminated the Gold Package designations and are designing a system for season ticket holders to either opt-in – allowing for a chance to receive tickets for reduced capacity games – or opt-out for the 2020 season.
The Packers are scheduled to begin training camp on July 28. The team has already ditched plans to use St. Norbert College during camp, ending a 62-year tradition of using the dormitory and dining facilities at the local college. The NFL is also in the process of eliminating at least two preseason games.
