Packed scenes pictured on Dublin red line Luas 'way over 50% capacity'

These were the packed scenes on a Dublin red line Luas packed war over permitted capacity on a sunny Saturday evening.

The Luas headed out of the city centre and towards Saggart saw people packed in on top of each other at a capacity over the prescribed 50% limit on public transport due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The pictures showed crowded aisles and people sitting down on seats marked with the yellow social distancing banners that are supposed to be kept empty at all times.

A person on the tram told Dublin Live that there were no attempts at any stop to control the crowds entering.

"It's supposed to be 50% capacity," they said.

"No security, and no checks. It appeared to be way over 50% capacity."

"It was a joke."
