Pack of wild boar on the loose near Scots village as public warned to stay away

Police have warned the public to be cautious after receiving reports that a pack of wild boar are on the loose near a Scots village.

It is understood that the hogs have been released near Strachur in Argyll and Bute. Sightings of the beasts were reported in the area last Friday, October 28.

Cops have told locals to steer clear of the pack. While they are generally not a threat, they can be protective of their young and can attack if they feel threatened.

Dog owners have also advised to keep their pets on a leash so the boar are not aggravated.

A spokesperson said: "Police received a report of wild boars being released in the Strachur area on Friday, October 28, 2022, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

"Although boars are generally peaceful animals, we ask that the public do not approach or attempt to feed them as they can be very protective of their young.

"We also ask that any members of the public walking their dogs near the boars keep their distance and keep their dog on a lead around them."
