Pachinko Creator Soo Hugh Signs Overall Deal With Apple

Supreme Court of the united states.

Pachinko creator Soo Hugh has inked a multiple-year overall deal with Apple and Media Res, the producers of the acclaimed series. Hugh, who previously worked at Universal Content Productions, will continue as showrunner for Pachinko and will also develop new projects under her Moonslinger Productions banner.

In a statement, Hugh expressed her excitement about extending her collaboration with Apple and Media Res, referring to them as her creative family. She highlighted her admiration for the teams and the opportunity to work with individuals she cherishes.

Margo Klewans, the president of Moonslinger Productions, has been instrumental in Hugh's career trajectory, having recruited her to UCP. Klewans oversaw Hugh's deal and those of other prominent figures in the industry.

The news of Hugh's overall deal comes as anticipation builds for the upcoming second season of Pachinko, which is set to premiere on Apple later this year. The show, based on Min Jin Lee's bestselling novel, was acquired by Apple in 2018 following a competitive bidding process.

Michael Ellenberg's Media Res secured the rights to the novel and collaborated with Hugh to pitch the series to various networks. The show ultimately landed at Apple, with Hugh's rapport with Apple executive Michelle Lee playing a significant role in the decision.

Hugh has outlined a four-season plan for Pachinko, with each season consisting of eight episodes. She has emphasized that each season will explore a crucial historical point in the multigenerational story, with the upcoming season expected to focus on events unfolding in the spring.

As Hugh continues her creative journey with Apple and Media Res, fans eagerly await the next chapter in the compelling saga of Pachinko.
