Pablo Mari sends first message to Arsenal fans after signing on loan from Flamengo

Pablo Mari has told the Arsenal fans he can't wait to pull on the Gunners shirt after joining on loan for the rest of the season from Flamengo.

Spanish defender Mari became new Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta's first signing in north London, when he arrived on loan for £4million on Wednesday.

Arsenal have the option of making the loan move permanent, if Mari impresses the top brass at the club before the end of the season.

Mari took to Twitter on Thursday to personally introduce himself to the Gunners fans.

The 26-year-old centre-back wrote: "I'm extremely happy and excited to start the next stage in my career as a player at Arsenal.

"I'm really looking forward to joining my new team-mates and doing my best playing in this shirt. Let's go."

Arsenal's technical director Edu spoke out about the loan move on Wednesday, explaining what the defender will bring to the Gunners' team.

"Pablo is an experienced player who will provide us with additional defensive quality," he said.

"We have been monitoring Pablo's career for a while and we are very pleased to have reached agreement with Flamengo for him to join us initially until the end of our season.

"Together with Mikel and his coaching team, we are all looking forward to seeing Pablo in an Arsenal shirt."

Gunners manager Arteta is looking to get another transfer over the line before the window slams shut on Friday, with Cedric Soares linked with the club.
