Pablo Mari's stance on permanent £13.5m Arsenal transfer as he discusses Mikel Arteta's impact

Arsenal loanee Pablo Mari has admitted he would like to make his move to the Emirates Stadium permanent at the end of the season.

The Spaniard moved to North London on loan from South American side Flamengo during the January transfer window, as one of two temporary additions secured by Mikel Arteta - the other being Cedric Soares from Southampton.

He made his debut in the FA Cup victory over Portsmouth, a 2-0 win, and kept a second clean sheet in his Premier League debut against West Ham.

However, his impact on English football has been significantly impacted by the coronavirus crisis which has brought a halt to football across the globe.

His future remains up in the air, particularly as his loan contract will likely expire before the 2019/20 season is completed, but he has expressed his desire to remain in North London.

"I have a lot of things to learn but I think my football can be really good with the Arsenal," he told Sky Sports. "I hope the club and I can go at the end (of the season) with good things to do the permanent transfer.

"We will see what happens because at the moment with the virus it is difficult.

"Mikel Arteta has done really well so far. I'm really happy to work with him.

"He has helped me with my weaknesses and improved my strengths. I hope I can work with him a lot of years.

"I love England and so does my wife. The centre of London is unbelievable. We are really happy here.

"My aim is to win the Premier League or try to go to the Champions League with the Arsenal.

"Also to go to the national team."

Prior to Mari making his Arsenal debut, they were said to be preparing to exercise the option to turn the loan deal into a permanent one.

According to reports in Brazil, this had been indicated to Flamengo as the Gunners were seeking to seal a deal and acquire the player's economic rights.

In addition, the report states that a fee taking Mari to the Emirates Stadium could reach 16 million euros (£13.5m) through performance bonuses.
