Pablo Mari looks set to be in the Arsenal matchday squad for tonight's FA Cup fifth round tie against Portsmouth.
The central defender is yet to make his Gunners debut after joining on loan from Flamengo during the January transfer window and also hasn't even made the bench for games against Burnley, Newcastle United, Olympiacos and Everton.
Much of the reason was down to the 26-year-old's lack of match fitness. He last featured in a competitive fixture in December in a Club World Cup final defeat against Liverpool.
But he get another 45 minutes under his belt for the U23's against Manchester City on Friday night and Mikel Arteta revealed in his pre-match press conference that Mari along with Rob Holding, Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are ready to play against the League One side.
"Yeah I think they need minutes like Rob, Reiss and Ainsley as well," Arteta said in his pre-match press conference. "It was a good game for them to get the fitness levels tested and they trained today really well.
"They're ready to play."
But will the Spaniard make an Arsenal matchday squad for the very first time at Fratton Park?
That could very well be the case if Mari's Instagram stories are anything to go by.
Taking to social media, Mari has done his best to hype up the big game on the south coast which would suggest he's set to at least be on the bench.
Speaking ahead of the game, Arteta has spoken about the importance of the FA Cup.
"It's really special. It's probably one of the nicest games of the season when you play the final day," he said. "In England at Wembley, nice weather, an incredible atmosphere and it's a trophy that we very much link with our history.
"We want to continue to be attached to that knowing that on Monday night, in Portsmouth, it will be tough."
