Pablo Hernandez underlines Kemar Roofe's importance as Leeds United wait on injury news

Like all Leeds United fans, Pablo Hernandez is crossing his fingers over Kemar Roofe after the striker limped off against Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday.

Last season's leading goalscorer was forced off five minutes into the second half at the Bankwest Stadium after he stretched back for a ball and collided with Wanderers defender Tass Mourdoukoutas.

After limping around the final third of the pitch in clear discomfort Roofe headed for the sideline for treatment and was quickly replaced by Jordan Stevens, with Marcelo Bielsa not looking to take any risks.

Leeds now face a wait to see the extent of the injury that comes just two weeks before the start of the new Championship season and Hernandez knows how important a player the 26-year-old is.

"I'll go now and chat to him," Hernandez told LeedsLive shortly after the final whistle.

"I hope it's not a serious injury because we need him and we hope that he's ready for next week."

Leeds are due to fly home from Australia on Sunday.

Hernandez was talking shortly after he netted a superb 94th minute winner as Leeds signed off their two-match Australian tour with a 2-1 win over the A-League side.

“It was positive," he said regarding the game. "Obviously, we won the game, but the most positive thing was we created a lot of chances,” he said.

“We had control of the game for the majority of the 90 minutes.

“Obviously, they have two or three counter attacks in the second half, but when one team goes on the attack, to score goals, it’s normal for us to have a lot of space in the back.

“This is our style. We want to play like this and the most positive thing today is the work and the team has good speed, we tried to score the second goal and we achieved this.”
