Pablo Hernandez outlines key factor in Leeds United's impressive win over Bristol City

Pablo Hernandez has underlined why continuity will be key for Leeds United this season if they’re to earn promotion to the Premier League.

The Whites kicked off the season with an impressive 3-1 win over Bristol City, with Hernandez putting in a Man-of-the-Match display.

The Spaniard opened the scoring in the first half with a sublime strike before setting up Patrick Bamford to double their lead.

Following last season’s promotion heartbreak, this comprehensive win was the perfect tonic for players, staff and supporters to kick-off the new season.

Despite falling short last term, Hernandez is insistent that Leeds must stick to the same attacking philosophy if they’re to go one step better this time around.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, he said: “Yes, we know we have a harder start today against Bristol. I think we were very good in possession.

“At the end, it wasn’t the best finish for us because we know we were top of the league for all the season and in the last games we lost this position and we lost the chance to go to the Premier League.

“But, I think today we saw we tried to continue with the same style, the same work and I think it’s the way for us to fight again to get to the Premier League.”

Many had expected Hernandez to take up a more central role this term after the signing of Helder Costa.

Hernandez started on the right flank once again though and rolled back the years with another breath-taking display that Leeds fans have become accustomed to.

The Whites caught the eye on the opening day of last season with a win over promotion-favourites Stoke City.

When asked if this a similar level of performance, Hernandez said: “Yeah, definitely, we know it’s a difficult game today against Bristol but I think we had a very good game.

“We can score in the first half and this goal gave us confidence.

“It’s always difficult against Bristol, they push a lot but I think we played very serious and we did good work in defence and offensively. We scored three goals to win an important first game.”
