The Leeds United Supporters' Trust have announced that their next mural will be a tribute to the club's Spanish talisman Pablo Hernandez.
Following on from the iconic 'Bielsa the Redeemer' mural that has been produced in Wortley, the Trust are looking to produce a number of further pieces of artwork across the city of Leeds to celebrate both the team's 2019-20 Championship title winning season and the club's rich heritage.
The choice of exact image will be put to a members' vote, with the iconic celebration that followed Hernandez's last-gasp winner at Swansea City sure to be in the reckoning to be used at so-far undetermined site.
The 'Bielsa The Redeemer' mural has received international recognition after Nicholas Dixon and Andy 'Burley Banksy' McVeigh worked to produce it, while another local artist Adam Duffield worked with Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich to produce a 'Champions' mural at Elland Road last month.
The Trust are raising funds to help with the costs of the project here, chairman Pete Emmerson explaining more about the project.
“After seeing the amazing reaction to the recent Leeds United murals, we thought it would be an exciting and expressive project to work with these Leeds based artists and for us to showcase our passion for the club and how it unites our city," he said.
“Our aim is to bring these celebratory pieces of artwork right across the city and we would like our fans to be involved by sharing their own mural ideas, designs and locations in their local areas.”
Dixon added: “After the amazing global success of the Bielsa mural in Wortley it’s a real honour to be able to continue to bring this artwork to life.
“As a lifelong Leeds fan I’m really proud to be able to combine my two passions - art and Leeds United. I’m looking forward to being able to spread some more joy around the city.”
Duffield is also looking forward to seeing more of the Trust's artwork across the city.
“As a Leeds fan it was a great honour to work with Mateusz Klich recently on the Champions artwork outside Elland Road," he said. "I love doing this style of art and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and working with the Supporters’ Trust to bring more of this to life across the city.”
McVeigh, aka The Burley Banksy, also added: “I love brightening up the streets around Elland Road and I get so much positive feedback on my Leeds United-themed artwork on the communications boxes. I’m just happy that I can keep doing what I love doing and celebrating the club's history around the city.”
