Palestinian authorities have reported 226 coronavirus cases, the majority of whom are workers or in contact with workers.
The Palestinian Authority has repeatedly warned of a possible and major outbreak of the pandemic, due to the continued movement of Palestinian workers back and forth between the occupied West Bank and Israel.
Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said they are the “gap” in the Palestinian precautionary measures taken to confront the coronavirus.
The PA is preparing for the worst possible case scenario with 50,000 workers returning from Israel to the Palestinian territories before the Jewish Passover holiday begins on April 8.
Despite all the measures previously taken by the PA, workers moving between the West Bank and Israel have infected people in Ramallah, Bethlehem, and towns around Jerusalem.
Kamal al-Shakhra, the director-general of primary care at the PA Health Ministry, said his ministry is ready to receive returning workers and carry out coronavirus tests.
Israel has meanwhile, reported 7,851 cases and 41 deaths.
