P-plater accused of causing fatal crash at Niagara Park granted conditional bail

A P-PLATE driver accused of causing a crash that killed one teenager and injured three others has been granted strict conditional bail in Gosford Local Court.

Lleyten Van Spronssen, 18, appeared in court on Monday charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and breaching a restriction relating to having young passengers while driving at night.

He did not enter any pleas and was granted bail on a number of conditions, including living at an address at Ourimbah, abiding by a curfew, not taking any drugs and not occupying the driver's seat of any vehicle.

The matter was adjourned until May 22.

Police said that emergency services responded to a single-vehicle crash at Washington Avenue, Niagara Park about 4.30am on Saturday and found four teenage boys seriously injured.

One, aged 17, died at the scene.

Three teenagers, one aged 18 and two aged 17, are in hospital and are all in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Mr Van Spronssen, the alleged driver of the car, was arrested and taken to Gosford Hospital under police guard.

After he was discharged on Sunday night, Mr Van Spronssen was taken to Woy Woy police station where he was charged by police attached to the Crash Investigation Unit.
