An 18-year-old woman on a P1 licence was caught by police driving more than 70 km/h over the speed limit for provisional drivers in NSW.

Goulburn Highway Patrol officers detected a Volkswagen Golf travelling at 164 km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Federal Highway at Wollogorang, south of Goulburn, at 4.30 pm on October 6.

Drivers who hold P1 licences in NSW are restricted and cannot drive over 90km/h.

While 164 km/h is 54 km/h over the signposted 110 km/h limit in that area, it is 74 km/h over the limit for P1 drivers.

The woman's licence was suspended after she received six demerit points.

She received a $2520 fine for the offence of P1 driver exceeding 90km/h by over 45km/h.
