P&O Cruises cancel all sailings until early 2021 due to coronavirus pandemic

P&O Cruises has cancelled all sailings until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The firm was one of many in the industry to halt services amid the global outbreak, and had originally planned to keep sailings suspended until November.

However, all of its Caribbean cruises have been cancelled to the end of January next year, while all cruises from and to Southampton have been called off until February 2021.

Bosses at P&O say that ‘evolving restrictions on travel from the UK’ is the main reason behind its decision.

Government officials still advise against travelling on cruise ships amid the pandemic.

Customers impacted by the cancellations will be contacted by the firm over their options.

P&O Cruises president, Paul Ludlow, said: “With evolving restrictions on travel from the UK, unfortunately it is necessary to cancel these itineraries.

"These further cancellations vary according to ship as well as complexity and length of itineraries, advice and guidance regarding ports of call and current air availability for fly/cruises.

"We are continuing to monitor the overall situation closely and will certainly reintroduce cruises should the opportunity arise and it is feasible to do so.”

P&O says that it will continue to work with health officials and the UK Government over the safe resumption of sailing.

The cruise firm said that it hopes to share details of its new approved health protocols “shortly”.
