Rockets veteran P.J. Tucker is partnering with local organizations to release a limited edition “COVID-19” clothing capsule in support of coronavirus relief efforts around Houston.
With a mission statement of raising COVID-19 awareness and making a positive impact on the community, the 34-year-old is working with The Better Generation on the line, which was created to emphasize the importance of following safety measures.
All sale proceeds will benefit the Houston Food Bank charity, which will supply food and meals to community members in need.
“Being in the Houston community, I see the effect that the coronavirus is having on everyone,” said Tucker, now in his third Rockets season. “We wanted to do a special project that not only impacts the community, but also spreads awareness to the seriousness of this virus. With everyone working together and supporting each other, we can get past this.”
Starting at 11 a.m. Central on Friday, April 3, items from the capsule will be available at TheBetterGeneration.com. The preorder will only be available for 72 hours through the weekend, or while supplies last.
The limited edition products will include long- and short-sleeve shirts, athletic shorts, and a baseball cap. Graphics for the items will include COVID-19 awareness descriptions and images. The capsule is designed to help support local vendors and small businesses.
“Even though we aren’t officially opening until later this fall, we wanted to help in any way possible,” said Brandon Davis, executive partner at The Better Generation. “With COVID-19 causing a large amount of layoffs, uncertainty, and negatively impacting the economy, we wanted to create a positive way to give back as much as possible to individuals in the community. The Houston Food Bank is the perfect partner for us.”
The Better Generation is the name of Tucker’s planned sneaker boutique shop, which is set to open in Houston this fall. The Rockets in February agreed to fully guarantee the final year of Tucker’s contract for the 2020-21 season, which likely ensures that he’ll be sticking around.
