P.J. Tucker: Rockets have ‘the best roster in the NBA right now’

Most NBA teams have made moves this offseason — most except for the Houston Rockets.

However, once free agency starts on Sunday, the team is expected to aggressively pursue All-Star wing Jimmy Butler.

The Rockets are planning to recruit Jimmy Butler to push the Philadelphia 76ers for a sign-and-trade deal, according to ESPN. But in order for the Rockets to get Butler to Houston, they’d have to engage the 76ers in a sign-and-trade deal that would likely include Clint Capela and Eric Gordon.

Until that happens, the Rockets are moving forward with more-or-less the same roster they had last season. That roster was pretty good and was expected to head to the NBA finals, but Houston was again toppled by the Golden State Warriors.

That isn’t bothering P.J. Tucker.

“There’s going to be a ton of fireworks,” the veteran told told Sam Amick of The Athletic. “All this stuff is going to happen. Right now, line it up – we’ve got the best roster in the NBA right now. Period – that’s ready to play on October whatever the day is.”

That core includes Capela, Gordon, Tucker and stars James Harden and Chris Paul.

Do you agree with Tucker? Do you hope the Rockets do whatever it takes to get Butler, or is having the same roster plus better a supporting cast more important and essential?
