
Hikers visited to Oze National Park on Saturday, when the 37,200-hectare tract straddling the four prefectures of Fukushima, Gunma, Tochigi and Niigata opened for the summer season.
Blessed with clear skies, visitors could be seen admiring the flowers in bloom such as mizubasho.
People were asked to refrain from visiting the mountain last year because of the pandemic situation. This year, authorities are advising people who want to visit the area to go on weekdays when there are fewer people.
At the start of the Numayama-toge Pass in Hinoemata, Fukushima Prefecture, 10 people including the mayor of the village attended a safety ceremony.
Takeshi Oshima, 48, traveled to the park from Yokohama and planned to stay overnight at a mountain lodge with friends. "I want to keep a safe distance from others when walking and refrain from long conversations during breaks," he said.
