Ozan Kabak has said his goodbyes to his Liverpool team-mates after finding out the club would not be signing him permanently.
The centre-half arrived in January on loan from Schalke as Jurgen Klopp battled an injury crisis at the back.
Kabak was a regular in defence during his short stint at Anfield, but on Monday he moved out of his house in Formby ahead of his return to Germany, reports the Athletic.
Liverpool could've retained his services by triggering an £18m option in his loan deal, but opted not to.
Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip will all be returning from injury this summer.
The Reds are set to bring in reinforcements with a £36m deal for RB Leipzig's Ibrahima Konate believed to be close.
Personal terms and the finer details are already agreed.
Kabak said recently he refuses to "day dream" and remains focused on improving as a player.
"I try to plan about my career and be better at what I do instead of daydreaming," he says, in an end-of-season interview with Liverpool's official programme.
"In football, teams can become champions by winning games and footballers can become more valuable by improving themselves.
"And I am focused on being a much more valuable asset for my club and country."
He went on to say: "Everything that I have experienced in Turkey, Germany and England, having played for four different teams and the experience of being part of the Turkish national team too, have all been and continue to be very valuable to me.
"Therefore I think one must always keep improving. I talk with my coaches about the things that I should improve and I try to apply their advice.
"I think in life, whatever it is that you are doing, if you focus on being one of the best then you are going to have more chances of reaching the top."
Kabak has made 13 appearances in all competitions for a Liverpool side that secured a top four finish.
At the turn of the year things looked bleak for the Reds as they lost six straight league games at Anfield.
But a run of eight wins in their last ten games helped them finish third.
Prior to Liverpool's final day win over Crystal Palace Klopp spoke glowingly about Kabak.
He said: "Ozan was absolutely incredible, he did a great job and not to forget he is a young, young, young boy with incredible experience already.
"He was in different clubs, moved early from Turkey to Germany. Played in two big clubs in Germany in difficult situations, which is obviously not his fault.
"We could all see when he arrived here he needed a little bit of time to adapt. Then he played super games for us; I don’t want to pick any games out, but the two Leipzig games were absolutely incredible if you think how good Leipzig can be."
