Ozan Kabak bids received by Schalke after Liverpool made transfer plan clear

Schalke defender Ozan Kabak, who was on loan at Liverpool during the second half of last season, is interesting several clubs around Europe as the Turkish international edges closer to his next permanent transfer.

Despite rumours of an exit being permitted for under €10m, the ECHO understands Schalke have placed a valuation considerably higher than that on his shoulders this summer.

It had been suggested that Schalke could allow Kabak to move on for free in a bid to get him off their wage bill - but it is understood that this is wide of the mark.

Rather, several European clubs have made inquiries about Kabak, with one club in Spain having made an offer of €17m (£14.5m).

The onus is now on the player to decide where he would like to move.

Schalke believe the offer that has come from La Liga to be much closer to a fair valuation for the player.

They learned early on during his loan spell in England that Liverpool had no intention of signing Kabak for the £18m option that had been agreed in January, with the Reds moving for Ibrahima Konate instead.

Kabak was then allowed to head off to the European Championships with his national side, Turkey, where the player was determined to focus fully on that tournament.

Turkey exited in the group phase, finishing bottom of a group containing Italy, Switzerland and Wales, and Kabak then went away for a holiday.

Upon his return to Schalke, he trained alone so that he could get back up to speed with the rest of his teammates, who had not been away on international duty, and had therefore started pre-season earlier than the Turk.

The German club are prepared to allow Kabak to move on once he has decided on where he would like to move to, and a suitable fee has been agreed.

Schalke, though, are reluctant to enter talks with clubs who Kabak has no interest in moving to, and feel that Kabak has a wealth of experience, despite his young age, which would make him an attractive proposition to possible suitors.

It is expected that there will be movement on a possible transfer for Kabak soon as the 21-year-old prepares the next step in his career.
