The Tokyo metropolitan government on Saturday showed to the press an oxygen station in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, that will be used for temporary treatments of COVID-19 patients with relatively mild symptoms. Treatment operations are scheduled to start on Monday.

The 130-bed facility was set up in a building that formerly housed the defunct National Children's Castle recreation center.

The oxygen station will accommodate patients recuperating at home if their symptoms worsen. The facility will accept people who are judged to have mild symptoms among those who request transportation to hospitals by ambulance.

Doctors and nurses will be stationed there around the clock to administer oxygen to patients. When the patients' conditions improve to a certain degree, they will be requested to return home. If their conditions worsen further, they will be transported from the oxygen station to a hospital.
