Oxlade-Chamberlain sends brilliant message to Arsenal fans following Liverpool's win over Spurs

Arsenal supporters will love what Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain told Per Mertesacker following Liverpool's Champions League triumph over Tottenham Hotspur.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring after two minutes from the penalty spot, and despite Spurs enjoying the bulk of possession they couldn't force a way back into the game and Divock Origi sealed a 2-0 win with a crisp strike late on.

That marked the Reds' sixth European Cup win and prevented the Lilywhites from becoming only the second London team to win the Champions League trophy - emulating Chelsea from seven years ago.

When Spurs booked their place in the final a number of Arsenal fans got in touch with Oxlade-Chamberlain, pleading with him to save them from the horror of watching their bitter rivals succeed where they failed.

And it would appear that the ex-Gunners star got the memo.

The midfielder didn't feature at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium but still got a winner's medal and stopped for a chat with former teammate Mertesacker after game where he had a brilliant message for Arsenal supporters.

"As former Gooners, we all know how much that one meant to all the Arsenal fans out there," he said. "It was massive for us at Liverpool, but 'once a gooner, always a gooner' that's what they say.

"And I had a personal feeling in that game that we needed to get that done for all the people I left at Arsenal.

"I know they were all willing us on to win that one, so I'm happy that we could do it."

It's safe to say that any ill-feeling towards Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal fans following his move from the Emirates Stadium to Anfield a couple of summers ago now no longer exist.
