Oxford United vs Newcastle United: Lee Ryder's FA Cup prediction

The BBC Match of the Day cameras will be in place at the Kassam Stadium for this FA Cup fourth round replay - and it's not hard to see why.

Oxford have a genuine shout of an upset after holding the Magpies at St James' Park and privately they will be confident having already dumped West Ham out of the League Cup in a 4-0 win at home this term.

The U's warmed up for the clash with an important 2-1 win over Blackpool at the weekend to stay in touch with the League One play-off places.

Lee Ryder's prediction

There are only two survivors from the Toon side that lost 3-0 to Oxford three years ago at the same stage of the competition with Matt Ritchie and Isaac Hayden the only men on duty for the awful defeat under Rafa Benitez.

That day it all went wrong in the second half as Newcastle conceded just after the break, missed a penalty through Aleksandar Mitrovic and then crumbled late in the game.

Surely they can't be as poor as that day?

And surely they can't be as toothless as they were in the first game?

Newcastle players don't need to be told that they can't let anybody down this time around.

Referee

Peter Bankes (Merseyside)

In charge of Newcastle's 1-1 draw at Wolves recently.

Charity bet

Newcastle to qualify at 1/2
