Police are investigating after a man was stabbed in broad daylight near Oxford Street in central London today.

It happened in Market Place at a junction with the famous shopping street shortly after 5.30pm.

Tragically, Scotland Yard later confirmed that the victim - a male in his late teens - had died two hours after the attack.

Images from the scene show a cordon in place as emergency crews treat the victim.

A Met spokeswoman said: "Officers attended and found a male suffering from a stab injury.

"Emergency services remain at the scene.

"There have been no arrests."

Transport for London said that Oxford Street's eastbound lane was closed at the junction with Great Portland Street "due to an emergency services incident".

One witness posted on Twitter: "On a side street off of Oxford Street, sitting outside and all of sudden we see a young man on the floor.

"Police and ambulance have been called. Looks like he’s been stabbed in broad day light."
