Owners of 'super clingy' cat trick her by creating fake warm lap to sit in

Three years ago, Ziggy the cat was taken home from a London shelter by Rebecca May and her husband.

It didn't take her long to settle into her new surroundings and show just how affectionate she is - with Rebecca saying she 'absolutely has to be sat on you'.

Anyone who sits down will quickly find a cat in their lap, and if there isn't one to be found, Ziggy will balance on backs, arms and shoulders to be close to her human friends.

It came as great news to the catto when her parents began to work from home more often - but proved trickier for them as the pet climbed all over the desk and computer keyboard.

Rebecca even put a cat bed on the table so was working at so Ziggy could stay close, but it wasn't enough to satisfy her.

She loves her new lap (Rebecca May)

After trying everything to get her to settle, Rebecca's husband came up with the genius plan to give her the lap she so longed for, as reported by The Dodo .

He stuffed a pair of trousers to create legs and hid a heating pad in the lap to recreate the feel of warmth, adding a pair of trainers for feet and a pillow for the stomach.

And it did the trick. Ziggy now snuggles into her fake lap, where she remains while the humans are busy.

Talking about her husband's creation, Rebecca said: "He thought that creating a decoy would be funny, but I don't think he expected it to actually work. Ziggy loved it.”

She posted a picture of the set up to Reddit , writing: "Our cat has become SUPER clingy now that we both work from home. We had to improvise..."

Others loved the idea, as one replied: "Spectacular. Wholesome. Warms my heart. Please give her an extra smooch tonight, from me."

Another vowed to steal the idea for themselves, commenting: "I also work from home, have a really clingy lap cat, and a pair of nearly worn through lounge pants I was gonna repurpose. This is genius. Now if I can figure out how to rig something to give him the occasional chin scratches..."
