Owners of much-loved pumpkin patch say staff were spat at and threatened after being forced to close

Staff at a popular pumpkin patch were threatened, spat at and verbally abused after being forced to close for safety reasons this weekend.

Pumpkin Alley, based in Ormskirk is hugely popular this time of the year and offers visitors the chance to pick their own pumpkins in the build up to Halloween.

However, yesterday its owners decided to close the site after it claims people were "ignoring" its car park rules and parking dangerously "endangering themselves and their children".

Despite trying to keep everyone safe, its owners have since taken to Facebook to say how sad they are after the abuse staff received once the decision was made.

Its Facebook post said: "Today has been a tough one.We are saddened by the abuse that our staff faced today. We have been spat at, verbally abused, and squared up to.

"We closed the patch today because people were ignoring our carpark attendants instructions and were parking dangerously along a bendy, main road.

"Not only endangering themselves and their children, but other road users. And our second patch also faced similar problems. We understand children are disappointed when they cant pick pumpkins, and our aim is not to disappoint children.

"We do however, aim to keep your children safe, and if that means closing our patch and losing money then that's what has to happen. Safety before profits, always. We know some people still pulled up and tried to come on, but closed signs were up and people were told.

"Don't worry about what other people do, if you did the right thing and left when asked then we appreciate that very much. Please don't comment that you were unhappy about being turned away, just try and understand why we did that. "

The pumpkin patch reopened this morning, although earlier today the owners once again updated its Facebook page to advise they were already at capacity and warned people to visit much later on or another day.

Sharing an image of its car park, which due to the weather is almost water logged, staff explained they only had parking available by its flower shop.

The Pumpkin patch will remain open right up until Halloween from 10am-5pm.
