Owner's devastation after cat in Stoke Gifford is mauled to death by dogs

The owner of a cat mauled to death by two lurchers fears other pets, or even children, could be attacked next.

Alyx Thomas was stood just a few metres away from her beloved Cookie when the dogs started biting the six-year-old pet.

Alyx and her 12-year-old brother managed to free Cookie from the dog's jaw but he died before they reached the vets.

The incident occurred in a field on New Road, Stoke Gifford, at around 7:30pm on Tuesday (July 14).

"My mum has been crying all day," said Alyx, aged 29. "She had to stand there and see Cookie being murdered. You could hear them attacking him, he was being dragged all over the place.

Cookie was six years old (Alyx Thomas)

"I put a post on Facebook and someone said a pair of lurchers attacked their dog and bit him while he tried to separate them. It could be a child next.

"The lady (owner) hid our cat so we couldn’t see him being attacked at first. Sat on the floor watching her dogs do it.

"My brother was covered in blood trying to get the dogs off."

The lurchers are described as black, with grey around their eyes.
